Godparent Bank

Through the Godparent Bank, Finnish schools can look for a sponsor to explain the basics of safe internet use either directly to pupils, or at teachers’ meetings or parent-teacher conferences. This service is completely free for schools.

The goal of this godparent system is to improve pupils’, teachers’ and parents’ awareness of information security issues. Through this system, teachers and parents can more effectively explain internet ground rules to children while also incorporating more information security issues in their teaching.

Information security godparents can be searched for according to various criteria, from the Godparent Bank on this website. These criteria are region, language preference, audience and the subject of the godparent’s presentation. When a suitable godparent is found, the teacher in question fills in an electronic form on which she or he enters the nature of the event, the desired time as well his/her contact information. This electronic form is sent to the godparent’s e-mail address, after which the godparent and teacher can continue conversing by e-mail.

All godparents come from organisations that participate in Safer Internet Day.
