Interview home assignment

Internet security is an important topic that should be discussed also at home. A home assignment might consist of, for example, students interviewing their parents about internet use. The model example published in the ‘For students’ section is aimed at third- to sixth-year students, but it is also suitable for more advanced students.

Another possibility is to design the parent questionnaire alongside your students. Interview topics can include how adults use the internet, what adults know of children's internet use, what the ground rules are for internet use at home, internet phenomena and problems, and safe use of the internet.

If no-one uses the internet at a child’s home, internet phenomena in general can be discussed with the parents.

The results of the assignment can be assessed with a classroom discussion addressing such topics as online bullying, the publication of images on the internet, and questions on the ground rules of internet use. Assessment can also be done in teams, through writing of essays etc., or by arranging a parents’ evening with special focus on internet safety and issues such as online bullying.
