File sharing programs

Users use peer-to-peer networks for sharing files such as music, games and movies. Copying of files is performed using a file sharing program (e.g. Bittorrent, DC++) that simultaneously distributes files from your own computer to other users.

Don’t forget about copyright!

File sharing programs are primarily used for the illicit distribution of music, video clips and games. Copying and distributing copyrighted material is prohibited under the new copyright act. So you should think before giving your child permission to use file sharing programs.

Information security risks

A careless user may accidentally share all the files on a computer for other people to copy.

Peer-to-peer networks are also home to illegal material and material unsuitable for children, and a filename does not necessarily tell the whole truth about the file content. Files that are copied from an unknown source may also contain viruses.

Sharing files from your computer may slow down your internet connection.
